Just a reminder!

Students have physical education once every five day cycle.  Please dress your child in comfortable clothing along with sneakers.  Jewelry should be left at home on physical education days.  Jewelry can cause injury to the child wearing it along with others in the class.

REMEMBER YOUR SNEAKERS

 FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION!

Are your children remembering their sneakers?  Remember, on Physical Education days students need to bring sneakers to school.

SAFETY PATROL

Fourth grade students considered for the Safety Patrol must meet the following criteria:

bullet

acceptable grades

bullet

superior behavior

bullet

acceptable work habits

bullet

good sense of responsibility

bullet

conscientious

bullet

positive attitude

bullet

kind and considerate

bullet

leadership potential (but not "bossy")

bullet

accepts constructive criticism

bullet

won't take advantage of his/her peers

bullet

accepts suggestions well

bullet

can serve as an "authority" figure

In May, the names of all fourth grade students will be listed on a sheet.  Selected staff will be asked to think about each of the students.  They will nominate as many of the students as they feel meet the criteria.  Their decision is based on the total year's experience and never used as a threat or reward.

We only need a limited number of Safeties and try our best to place as many of the students who have received several recommendations.  While we understand that some students may feel disappointed by not being selected, this is the fairest way to determine members of the Patrol.

Once selected, Safeties must maintain the characteristics listed above.  Not doing so could lead to their temporary or permanent removal.  This decision is the prerogative of the Safety Patrol Coordinators.

Each year children and adults across the nation receive serious injuries to the brain because they don't war a helmet when riding a bicycle.  Brain injuries do not heal!

The Physical Education Department has received  notes from parents asking about bike helmets.  There is positive support for helmet use, but there is a concern when our Everitt children are riding without proper protection.

Parents are responsible for their children to wear a helmet anytime their child rides a bike.  Parents can set a positive example by using helmets when they ride their bikes.

Another important thing parents can do is model the proper use of safety equipment when working with machines or tools around your home.  Take a moment and speak to your children about your expectations about safety.

Does your child wear a helmet while biking?  It is a law in Pennsylvania that a child must wear a helmet while biking until the age of twelve.  Helmets should be worn consistently.  Good habits need to be started young.  Implement family rules about wearing helmets even beyond the age of twelve.
