INSTRUCTIONAL TIME GUIDELINES
A variety of supplementary educational experiences are also a vital part of the elementary school experience, requiring flexibility in scheduling any given days activities. The following guidelines are presented. Kindergarten Program (450 hours of instruction) Kindergarten curriculum focuses on language arts. Because reading readiness skills are emphasized in order to prepare students to become readers, other curricular areas such as science, social students and mathematics are integrated into the language arts instruction. In addition to language arts, mathematics, social studies and science instruction, students receive instruction in the following areas:
Primary Program (Grades 1 & 2 (900 hours of instruction) Curriculums in grades one and two focuses on helping students become more proficient in the areas of language arts and mathematics. Instruction also takes place in the areas of science, social studies, music, physical education, art, library and computers. The following in a guideline for utilization of time at the primary levels:
Intermediate Program - Grades 3, 4, and 5 (900 Hours of instructions)
Curriculum in grades three, four and five focuses on extending and refining knowledge of language arts and mathematics in preparing students to exit elementary school. Instruction also takes place in the areas of science, social studies, music, physical education, art, library and computers.
