CAFETERIA CHATTER
Teresa Martin About our lunch program.... Children are asked to order their lunches in the morning so that the Food Service staff has an opportunity to prepare that amount and ... a little bit more. When children arrive in the cafeteria, they must remember to select what they ordered. When children change their minds at the last minute and select something they did not order, there is the possibility that children who ordered that item will have to make another choice. Breakfast is still being served!
We have served 8,964 meals to our children since September 2006! Thanks to the cooperation of parents and staff, Everitt students have the opportunity to have breakfast each morning. At $1.00, it is quite a bargain! Free/reduced prices apply to students who qualify. I am working with the Neshaminy Transportation Department to have bus students arrive closer to 8:40 am ...the beginning of our school day. Parents who drive their children to school in the morning should not expect them to have breakfast if they arrive too late to finish eating by 8:52am. Safeties who are on duty in the morning are expected to eat their breakfast and then report to their assignments. It is too late to begin eating their responsibilities are completed.
Samuel Everitt Elementary School is now serving SCHOOL BREAKFAST for just $1.00 STARTING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 23, 2006 Bagels and Cream Cheese or Cereal or Yogurt or Muffin w/Butter and Jelly and sometimes... hot, egg sandwiches Pick ONE and add Juice or Milk! A GOOD WAY TO START THE DAY!
The school district's Food Service Department is self-supporting and non-profit. It is not funded by taxpayer dollars. However, each school cafeteria maintained as a vital part of the educational program. As such, a well-balanced lunch is offered each day. The cost of a full lunch, including milk, is $1.60; dessert is not included by can be purchase separately. Other items are also a available, including pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a variety of salads. For students who bring their lunch, a selection of milk, including low fat is available for $.40. A variety of snacks and ice cream is also available. A monthly menu is distributed to each child. Weekly menus are announce on radio station WBCB. They are also shown on the Neshaminy Network's Channel 6(Sururban Cable) and channel 15 (Lower Bucks Cablevision) and can be accessed on the Web (www.neshaminy.k12.pa.us, then highlights Food Services). As participants in the National School Lunch Program, free or reduced priced lunches are available to Neshaminy students. Application forms are sent home with each child the first week of school; they are also available form your school nurse. All Neshaminy School District use a Point of Sale system for the purchase of food, beverages and snacks. It is computerized system that allows for prepayment from paying students but also recognizes a student's free or reduced payment status. Each student is assigned an account and PIN number with which to access the account. By prepaying you can be assured that your child has money available daily to purchase a delicious and nutritious meal. Prepayments may be made by check or cash to the cashier or to the cafeteria manager before school begins. Checks are to be made payable to Neshaminy Food Service. Please writ your child's full name and PIN in the memo section of the check. Daily cash payment will still be accepted, but it important for the efficiency of the system that all students use their PIN number regardless of the payment method. However, the more student that use the prepayment method the quicker the lines will move. It is important that students do not share their PIN number with anyone. Should a problem arise with you child's account, it can be closed and a new account with a new PIN number will be assigned. If your child forgets or loses his/her money or bagged lunch, the cafeteria staff will provide a lunch on a credit basis. The cost for the lunch must be repaid the next school day. This prompt repayment is important so that this privilege is not abused. If a lunch loan is made to a child, the cafeteria will send a note home with the child. If borrowing continues to occur, the cafeteria manager will telephone the parents. All emergency meals must be repaid. We thank you for your support and cooperation in helping our students develop responsibility.
ADULT
The cafeteria is one of the locations where students can socialize in a more relaxed setting with other students from their classroom. Having a parent present changes the dynamics of those interactions. It is preferred that parents/visitors have lunch with their child in the school cafeteria only occasionally, perhaps once or twice a year.
STUDENTS' CAFETERIA BEHAVIOR The noise level in the cafeteria may seem loud sometimes but we consider it "happy noise" for the most part. Voices bounce off the walls and that increases the volume. Children are encouraged to stay seated, chat with friends at the table, and eat all of their lunch. One way to reduce the noise level is for students to use the soft thermal insulated lunch sacks instead of hard plastic boxes. While in the cafeteria, students are expected to:

Here's to your children's good health! While there is a national interest in promoting healthy eating habits among children, the Everitt staff has always been concerned about the "whole" children. We want our children to exercise in the recess yard, to learn how to be a good true friend, and how to make good choices when it comes to eating. To help our children, the Neshaminy Food Services will continue to offer fruits and vegetables as part of a full lunch and as items to purchase as snacks. We will limit the number of sweets/salty snacks that a child can purchase to one treat a day. We want all of our students, all of your children, to be healthy and happy. Your cooperation and support are appreciated!
